It has become something of a tradition for each exhibition held at the to be accompanied by a rich programme of events designed to offer the public an opportunity to explore some of the issues addressed in the exhibition in greater depth. In the course of four lectures in the Palazzo delle Esposizioni's Sala Cinema, the curator of the exhibition and a number of leading scholars offer their analysis of Islamic civilisation and its culture in various periods of its history, dwelling on the features that characterise art, history, politics, religion and literature in the Islamic world. The same room will also be hosting a selection of films helping up to build a bridge between the past and individual experiences in the present, exploring both concord and clash between distant cultures and between people of different religions and generations. The screenings also highlight the gap between the now obsolete image of the remote and mysteious Orient as portrayed in traditional films and the need for an objective debate on a contemporary reality that is so close to our own world. To complete the programme, a special concert has been scheduled inside the 's exhibition halls to bring the works of art to life through music, allowing the audience to admire the masterpieces of Islamic art to the accompaniment of the captivating rhythm of traditional Arab music revisited and brought up to date by Milagro Acustico Medina Sound, one of Italy's most interesting groups and the recipient of much praise for its exploration of traditional Mediterranean sounds over the past twenty years.
