Giovanni Curatola, the curator of the exhibition and editor of the catalogue Al-Fann. The Art of the Islamic Civilisation. The al-Sabah Collection in Kuwait, will be providing an introduction to Islamic art. Setting some of the exhibits in context using images of architecture from the vast areas under Muslim domination, he will be tracing the chronological development of Islamic art up to the great empires of the 16th century, and discussing the themes explored in greater depth in the exhibition itself such as calligraphy, geometry, arabesques and figures, and winding up with the jewellery of the Mughal era.
