With her talent and her personality, Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum personifed the Arabs' lifestyle in the 20th century. An artiste with an unmistakable voice, she became "the voice of the Arabs" in the eyes of the whole world at the time, and she continues to symbolise an era and the unachieved dream of political unity more than thirty years after her death. Using pictures from the archives and the many interviews that she gave both in France and in the Arab world, this film explores the art and the unique destiny of a woman whose immense charisma and influence have meant that she continues to enjoy an extraordinary cult following even today.
