Travel as formative experience, again:  a young Jewish boy with family issues sets out on the path to maturity thanks to his friendship with an old Arab grocer, played with outstanding expressive grace by world-class actor Omar Sharif.  Together they set out on a journey to the Orient, following a path decked with the "flowers of the Qu'ran", in other words the pearls of wisdown that the ageing Sufi pronounces in the course of his conversations with his young friend.
