When her boyfriend dies of an overdose she herself got him, a nightclub singer escapes from the police and hides out in a convent, where the nuns experiment with all kinds of sin in order the better to understand wayward souls. Almodóvar looks to Buñuel and has fun painting a provocational and eccentric picture that achieves moments of grotesque comedy in a film that marked his spectacular international debut at the Venice Film Festival.
