directed by Michel Ocelot. Cartoon, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, 2006, 99 min., Italian version
This wonderful cartoon by French artist Michel Ocelot appeals to audiences of all ages with its portrayal of ancient legend and its dream of integration between distant worlds and cultures. Once upon a time, two children called Azur and Asmar, one blond and blue-eyed, the other with black eyes, hair and skin, were brought up as brothers by the same Arab nurse, but they were later separated by order of Azur's noble and strict father. They meet again as adults in a fabulous adventure played out in the Maghreb amid fates, gremlins, beggars and wise old men.
