Introduction by Aldo Spiniello
(Mexico, 1953) by Luis Buñuel, with Arturo de Córdova, Delia Garcés, Aurora Walker, b/w, duration: 92 min, DCP original version with Italian subtitles

Francisco, a man of great virtue and religiosity, seduces and marries his friend Raúl's girlfriend. But the marriage soon turns into hell, due to the man's blind jealousy. One of Buñuel's greatest masterpieces, it was not by chance that Lacan showed it to his students as an illustration of paranoid delirium, even though the Mexican director was primarily concerned with stressing the damage caused by bourgeois education and its cult of possession and machismo.

Restoration by The Film Foundation's World Cinema Project, Les Films du Camélia, and Cineteca di Bologna
