Film retrospective promoted by
Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Cineteca di Bologna, Museo del Cinema di Torino
A genius of independent American moviemaking and the winner of an Academy Honorary Award for his career in 2010, Roger Corman will be attending the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in person to kick off his film very own retrospective. King of the B-movie and famous for translating the tales of Edgar Allan Poe onto the silver screen, he has directed and produced hundreds of movies "without losing a dollar" (to use the man's own words). He is a man who doesn't know the meaning of the word "waste". He'll take some spare film lying around, a few pieces of equipment, three lines from a script and a four-hour contract, and turn it into a movie! Roger Corman's talent for directing and producing is legendary and there has been no change yet in his volcanic creativity. He has experimented with the entire gamut of film genres from westerns to sci-fi and from black comedy to horror: one has but to glance at the titles in this spellbinding overview of his vast output, ranging from his lesser-known beginnings to the shadowy colours of his celebrated horror movies, via the films in which he played movie godfather to three outstanding pupils: Coppola, Scorsese and Demme. And to wind up the retrospective, the cherry on the cake is a documentary never yet shown in Italy that takes a sweeping look at Roger Corman's long career.
