Mirth challenges horror and the comic vein gains the upper hand in the fifth chapter of his Poe cycle.  To play the three leading magicians, Corman was able to call on the prodigious talents of Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff, "the three faces of fear", each one capable of acting up in his own very personal style.
