The Masque of the Red Death directed by Roger Corman
(GB 1964, 85 min - original version with Italian subtitles)
In a totally unreal southern Italy, the satanic actions of the tyrant Prospero call for the severe punishment of the Red Death. Plague, satanic rituals, hooded conspirators, the bloody use of colour and an increasingly baroque Vincent Price ensure that this movie can be classed as the surrealist chapter in his series based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe.
