A project devised and curated by the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale and the Società Psicoanalitica Italiana

Encounters introduced and moderated by Fabio Castriota
A unique opportunity here in Italy for us to look inside ourselves, combining the cinema with psychoanalysis, Cinemente turns the Palazzo delle Esposizioni’s cinema theatre into a workshop open to debate and to an understanding of human action. Screening films that address crucial aspects of our experience and hosting conversations between psychoanalysts and directors, the festival has been offering viewers a salutary rendez-vous for the past nine years, a gym in which to train our awareness and to probe our relationship with the world, in search of those emotions and tensions that determine and that have a profound influence on that relationship.
At times like the present, when the world seems to be hurtling straight towards some threatening and unfathomable abyss, it is more crucial than ever to redefine the linchpins of our existence, such as love and solitude, the balance between nature and progress, or expectation and loss, adopting such specifically human resources as pietas and empathy towards those changes that the emergency threatens to make incurable. The cinema and psychoanalysis are precious allies in this search, making the invisible visible. As though in a dream or in a premonition, they are capable of ferrying us into the depths and of shedding light on unexpected ways out of the spreading gloom.
