directed by Andrea Segre, Italy, 2021, 100 min.
Followed by an encounter with Fabrizio Rocchetto and the director
Pietro and Alvise are the two heirs of a family of fishermen from the Giudecca, the most working class island in Venice. They clash over the very heart of the changes that are inexorably altering their lifestyle and their identity, namely the increasingly heavy impact of global tourism which has modified the very core of the relationship between the city and its citizens and which the pandemic has simply aggravated. Pietro, despite the hard work and the solitude involved, would like to carry on fishing for the lagoon’s typical crabs, whilst Alvise would like to make money by renting out the family home to foreign tourists. Amid astonishing moments of contemplative grace and pearls of Venetian humour, Segre returns once again to reflect on the transformation of his city, the victim of an increasingly predatory mentality, by rediscovering the most important aspects of man’s original, slow-paced, unaffected and universal social relations.
