It has become something of a tradition for Cinemente to turn its gaze on the dawn on the cinema, rediscovering an astonishing psychological depth and capacity for probing in images dating back to before the invention of sound, images that partake of the sensitivity that was fostering the dissemination of psychoanalytical research in those same years. This special evening is a tribute to two huge Italian divas: the first is the wonderful Lyda Borelli who embodies the very prototype of the modern woman, a reckless woman aviator who sacrifices everything to her passion for love, right up to the melodramatic epilogue of poverty and decline; the second is the diva par excellence, Eleonora Duse, in her only film, which found in Grazia Deledda’s novel and its setting, rural Sardinia, the ideal setting for drawing out the primordial and eternal sentiments associated with the love that binds a mother to her children and that transcends all human events.
