Andrzej Wajda’s cinema is visionary, dramatic and baroque, distinguished by its extraordinary pictorial power. The director of masterpieces such as Ashes and Diamonds, Kanal and Man of Marble, Wajda explored some of the most dramatic turning points in twentieth-century European history, marked by the rise of totalitarian regimes, wars and the division of the continent into opposing blocs, transforming the experience of his nation into a universal metaphor.
Celebrated by filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Andrei Tarkovsky, Wajda drew inspiration from painting, myth, literature and symbolic imagery, masterfully blending the tangible reality of history with a powerful visionary dimension.
Through literary adaptations, sweeping historical narratives, intimate portraits and lyrical storytelling, the Images from the Storm retrospective invites you to (re)discover the work of one of the greatest masters of European cinema.
All screenings will be in DCP format, in original language with Italian subtitles.
The retrospective Images from the Storm: The Cinema of Andrzej Wajda was conceived to mark the centenary of the director’s birth, as part of the Great Classics of Polish Cinema section of the 14th edition of the CiakPolska Polish Film Festival 2026.
