by Andrzej Wajda, PL 1970 - 95'
Unable to escape the memory of his wife, who lies buried in the birch wood surrounding his home, Bolesław welcomes his brother Stanisław. Gravely ill and aware that he has little time left, Stanisław nevertheless retains an irrepressible zest for life. Set against a backdrop of lush, flourishing nature, this intense meditation on Eros and Thanatos reveals the most painterly and lyrical side of Wajda’s cinema.
