France 1959, directed by François Truffaut, starring Jean-Pierre Léaud, Albert Rémy, Claire Maurier, b/w, 93', 35mm Italian dubbed version
Antoine Doinel is a 12-year-old restless dreamer, neglected by his family and mistreated by his teacher. When he's caught red-handed stealing a typewriter, his mother puts him into a reform school. But Antoine escapes. Quasi-autobiographical first movie by Truffaut, Les Quatre Cents Coups is the symbol of the French New Wave. It is also an ode to childhood freedom; a film still fresh and moving in its seductive simplicity.
