China's cities are plunged into chaos every spring. Millions of people flood the train stations to return to their native villages in order to celebrate Chinese New Year. They are mostly factory workers who work in the large industrial cities on the coast. In his first film, which has received numerous awards, director Lixin Fan tracks the journeys and hopes of the Zhang family, one of the many families split between city and country, between tradition and modernity.
