Introduced by Patrizia Pistagnesi
Born in Kyiv and emigrating to the United States while still a child, Maya Deren was a pioneer of the avant-garde film but also a choreographer, writer and anthropologist. A veritable beacon for the New American Cinema (but also for such future directors as David Lynch), she developed an astonishingly dreamlike style that shares a bond with French surrealism and expands on its work on the body and on language.
