Riding the wave of Surrealism and of the discovery of Mesoamerican culture, art in New York in the early 1940s began to ask itself questions on the issue of origin. Claudio Zambianchi, a lecturer at Rome's Università La Sapienza, will be illustrating the stages in the journey that was to lead to total abstraction in the space of just under a decade.
