The film TOITŪ – Visual Sovereignty documents the creation of the largest exhibition of contemporary Māori indigenous art ever held in Aotearoa New Zealand, as well as it’s international reach, traversing the 2024 Venice Biennale and the winning of the Golden Lion by the Mataaho Collective. It explores thematics of indigenous artistic self-determination, an unflinching and deeply personal look at the politics of power, authorship, and identity.
The film screening will be followed by a Q&A by director and co-producer, Chelsea Winstanley.
In collaboration with the New Zealand Embassy in Rome.
English language film with Italian subtitles, Q&A held in English
