Teheran, 7 July 2007: Reyhaneh Jabbari, aged 19, had a business meeting with a prospective new client. He tried to rape her, but she knifed him and fled. She was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Despite the mass of evidence that she was acting in self-defence, Reyhaneh did not stand a chance in court because her attacker was a powerful man who was protected by a patriarchal society even after his death. Thanks to videos recorded in secret and supplied by members of her family, to their testimony and to letters written by Reyhaneh, the film retraces the trial, detention and fate of a woman who has become a symbol of resistance for an entire country. Her struggle for her rights mirrors that of countless other women, shedding light on the condition of women and girls in Iran.
