Making friends in a clinic, two mothers give birth on the same day, creating a strong bond that evolves symmetrically. The director reflects in masterly fashion on the complexity of sentiment, guilt and reconciliation, analysing the identity of an entire country through a personal melodrama with a superb performance from Penélope Cruz, who won an award at the Venice Film Festival.
