(Du skal ære din hustru, Denmark, 1925) by Carl Theodor Dreyer, starring Johannes Meyer, Astrid Holm, Karin Nellemose, b/w, duration: 107 min., 18 fps, 35mm silent with Italian subtitlesYoung Ida plays the role of mother and wife with dedication, but her husband Victor humiliates her with his despotic and arrogant behavior. It will take a plot hatched by the old nanny to change his attitude. A textbook kammerspiel, elegantly written and with a theme that was by no means obvious at the time. The film's success in France led Dreyer to direct in that country his masterpiece, The Passion of Joan of Arc.
