Saburo Sugiyama alternates teaching in prestigious Japanese and US universities with conducting major excavations in Teotihuacan.  His digs have led to some sensational discoveries and revealed the connections  linking the city's urban plan to cosmology and ritual life, which included gory human sacrifice.
