The observations of satellites that reveal x-rays and gamma-rays tell us of a violent universe, constantly rocked by countless hugely powerful explosions.  A scientist who has made gamma-ray bursts his daily bread tells us about this violent universe, a very different kettle of fish from the image of the cosmos handed down to us by the ancients.
