(USA 1938) directed by Fritz Lang, starring Sylvia Sidney and George Raft, b/w, duration: 94 min., DCP, original version with Italian subtitles
On quitting jail, Joe goes to work in a department store and ends up falling for one of the sales girls. What he doesn’t know is that she, too, is an ex-con. Alluding to Brecht, Lang called the film “Lehrstück”, an educational comedy, with the occasional accompaniment of Kurt Weill’s music. An absolute rarity.
