directed by Robert Altman, starring Keith Carradine, Shelley Duvall and John Schuck, USA 1974, 123 min., 35mm, original version with Italian subtitles
During the Great Depression, a murderer escapes with two cronies and they become bankrobbers. Based on Edward Anderson’s novel which Nicholas Ray first brought to the screen in 1947, Altman approaches the gangster movie with his customary originality, rejecting the genre’s heroic stereotypes and shining the spotlight on the chasm between violence and humdrum daily life.
