(USA 1951) by Christian Nyby and Howard Hawks, starring Kenneth Tobey, Margaret Sheridan, b/w, 87’, 35mm Italian dubbed version

North Pole. Near an American base, a flying saucer is found. Frozen under layers of ice, an alien creature is hiding inside it. A fatal oversight makes the ice thaw, thus bringing the "thing" back to life... A cult sci-fi film from the Fifties, it was reportedly directed by Christian Nyby, a film editor, but it was actually almost entirely shot by Howard Hawks, whose skill in making noir and comedy features gave the film a surprising freshness. A remake by John Carpenter was produced in 1982.
