Locked away in a lunatic asylum, Dr. Mabuse pursues his criminal plans through the asylum’s director. Lang’s last German film is also his most political work, and in the delusions of omnipotence of Mabuse and his henchmen we cannot help but see the rise to power of Adolf Hitler, who was to ban the film.
