Maciek lives in a Polish village close to the Belarusian border. It is the winter of 2021, and the crisis on the border is deteriorating. The whole area is militarised, and the region is patrolled by border guards seeking out “illegal migrants” and turning them back. One day, Maciek’s mother decides to offer shelter to Alhyder, an exhausted 27-year-old Syrian refugee.

Writer and filmmaker Zuzanna Solakiewicz holds a degree in literature from Warsaw University. She lived in Israel from 2005 to 2009, studying film directing at the Sam Spiegel Film & TV School in Jerusalem, before completing an internship at the Film School in Łódź. Her documentary 15 Corners of the World won the Best Film Award at the Locarno Film Festival in 2014, the prize for the best documentary at the Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival and a number of other awards. The Soil, released in 2021, was shown at the Krakow Film Festival, at DocsMX in Mexico City and at the RAI Film Festival in London.

Zvika Portnoy obtained a degree in photography at the BEZALEL Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem in 2007, and in directing and cinematography at the Sam Spiegel Film & TV School in the same city in 2011. He is a member of the Israeli Association of Photographers, he has held a number of photography and video art exhibitions, and he has directed the photography for numerous shorts, feature films and documentaries, including Zuzanna Solakiewicz’s much-acclaimed 15 Corners of the World. He has been living and working in Poland since 2011.

Reservations may be made on the Italian version of this page from 9:00 am on the day before the screening you wish to attend until two hours before the performance is due to begin.
