Altman embarked on his career as a director with a turbulent teenage love story set in suburban gangland, in the furrow of The Wild One and Rebel Without a Cause. Written in five days and filmed in only three weeks, the movie so impressed Alfred Hitchcock that he asked Altman to direct one of the episodes in his television series Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
