A masterpiece of expressionist cinema, and indeed of silent movie history in its entirety, Metropolis is still the film that best encapsulates Lang’s genius: a futuristic adventure combining social critique and mysticism whose visual impact is still overwhelming a century later. The version screened here is the most complete restoration to date.
