directed by Robert Altman, starring Warren Beatty, Julie Christie and Rene Auberjonois, USA 1971, 120 min., DCP, original version with Italian subtitles
A gambler and a prostitute organise a brothel for miners during the gold rush in the mountains of California. Altman’s superb western buries the myth of the frontier under a thick blanket of snow, revealing the brutality of capitalism lurking within the American legend. The soundtrack with the songs of Leonard Cohen is quite simply unforgettable.
