(USA 1954) directed by Fritz Lang, starring Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame and Broderick Crawford, b/w, duration: 90 min., DCP, original version with Italian subtitles
Like Renoir in La Bête Humaine (Judas Was a Woman), Lang adapts Zola’s novel and its tragic love triangle, but he approaches it from a different standpoint: “What Renoir is to humanism, Lang is to determinism. As Renoir is concerned for his characters, so Lang is obsessed by the structure of the trap” (A. Sarris).
