Nostro pane quotidiano, 89 min., USA 1930, silent movie with English and Italian intertitles, 24fps, directed by Friedrich W. Murnau, with Charles Farrell and Mary Duncan
Lem, a farmer visiting Chicago, meets a waitress called Kate while in the city, and they fall in love. When they move back to Lem's farm, however, the girl finds herself having to cope with a hostile and violent environment. In this movie, Murnau once again explores the contrast between the city and the country in an unusually powerful symphony of images.
