The first of many adaptations for the screen of Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur's comedy, the film tells the tale of the swashbuckling adventures of a newspaper editor, a reporter and a death row convict who manages to escape.  Moldovan director Lewis Milestone, who by this time already had two Oscars to his credit, gives us yet another lesson in style and pace in this dazzling movie.
