On returning home, a soldier crippled in World War II seeks to forge a new life for himself with the help of his fiancée and of an enlightened medic.  Filmed in a real hospital, this movie with its outstandingly courageous realism marked the screen debut of a young but already exceptional actor named Marlon Brando.
