The Connection - cinema review

28 february 2012

directed by Shirley Clarke
(Il contatto, 1962, 110 min. - original version with Italian subtitles)
Our gaze sinks deep into contemporary hell in this first full-length feature film by one of the leading lights of the New American Cinema:  based on a production by the Living Theatre, this film is a milestone in the history of the modern cinema thanks both to its claustrophobic ambience - with a group of drug addicts waiting for the pusher to show up - and to the way in which it stages a direct reflection of human experience.
