Split into two parts, Siegfried and Kriemhild's Revenge, this early blockbuster revisits the traditional German epic (and Wagner’s opera) in a triumph of visual and narrative invention, combining the erudite and the everyday to foreshadow a large part of the future fantasy genre. Not to be missed on any count.
