To bring her boyfriend back to life, a girl strikes a bargain with Death. She has to try to save the life of another human being, and to do so she will be sent to three different places and periods in history. This astonishing Gothic tale, which influenced such filmmakers as Buñuel and Hitchcock, still manages to move and to astonish audiences to this day.
