directed by Robert Altman, starring Karen Black, Cher and Sandy Dennis, USA 1982, 109 min., DCP, original version with Italian subtitles
In an emporium-cum-museum devoted to James Dean near where The Giant was filmed, three girlfriends commemorate the twentieth anniversary of their teenage idol’s death. Bringing a theatre play to the screen, Altmans maintains its original layout to produce a touching existential exploration of femininity that calls into question the illusions and myths on which our existence rests.
