The BMW i3 Concept focuses on mobility needs in urban areas and, as the first premium electric vehicle, reinvents BMW attributes for the future. and innovative. This unique plug-in hybrid brings together a combustion engine and an BMW eDrive to create an extraordinary driving experience together with extremely low fuel consumption and emissions.
CreativeAct Rome: Fabio Novembre
BMW i is about far more than mobility. It represents a whole new way of urban living and thinking. We are therefore proud to be sharing our venue in Rome with one of Italy's most respected architects and designers: Fabio Novembre (*1966/Lecce). In 1984 he moved to Milan and graduated in architecture at Politecnico. In 1992 he lived in New York, where he got to know Anna Molinari.
Novembre realized his first interior project for her: the shop ‘Anna Molinari Blumarine” in Hong Kong. In the same year he opened his studio in Milan. The collaborations with leading design companies intensified during the years, e.g. Cappellini, Driade, Meritalia, Flaminia and Casamania – just for naming some. At the same time he realized several stores for the international fashion brands
worldwide: Tardini, Blumarine, Stuart Weitzman or Meltin’Pot etc. Fabio Novembre held several solo exhibitions: the Comune of Milan dedicates ‘Teach me the freedom of swallows” in the Rotonda di Via Besana (2008). In 2009 the Triennale Design Museum of Milan invited him to create a personal exhibition named ‘Il Fiore di Novembre”. In 2010 the Comune of Milan put him in charge of
an exhibition inside the Italian Pavillion during Shanghai Expo. 2011 is his photography year: after art-directing of the exhibition ‘Lavazza con te partirò’ at the Teatro dell'Arte of the Triennale of Milan, he also designed and curated the Steve McCurry exhibition at Marco Testaccio, Rome. In April 2012 he signed the new exhibition setting for the fifth edition of Triennale Design Museum. For BMW i he has created an exhibit that examines changes in Rome’s urban life.
Glocal Partners: Rome
The BMW i. BORN ELECTRIC TOUR is also about changing our perceptions of premium and luxury products. And how we can consume more sustainably in the future. For this reason we are partnering with local designers and companies involved in developing a 'Next Premium' range of sustainable luxury products. Products like W-eye™. These high fashion frames are made from seven thin strips of colourful woods laminated onto aluminium bands, which give them strength, flexibility, durability and lightness. Each is lovingly hand-finished for comfort and an exquisite feel. All W-eye frames are produced to the highest ecological and sustainability criteria, with the utmost respect for the environment. Only off-cuts of wood used for traditional furniture manufacture are used, while wood is bent in the traditional fashion using a low energy-consumption cold bending process.Or the Etcetera-Design brand, a range of furniture and other accessories created from cardboard, an eco-friendly and recyclable natural material with unlimited design potential. Their products are 100% made in Italy, and each reflects the company’s four main ‘E-principles’, which are Estetica (Aesthetics), Ecologia (Ecology), Emozione (Emotion) and Economicità (Economy). Etcetera-Design believes in ‘Democratic Design’, which means keeping prices affordable so that as many people as possible can enjoy their products. Alice Visin will also be joining us, presenting her "Silenzio stampa” jewellery collection, made of crumpled newspaper, used maps and discarded admission tickets. The Italian lighting
brand Catellani & Smith will also be there showcasing a series of beautifully minimalist, circular LED lamps called ‘Sorry Giotto’. Made of hand-painted copper, the highly-sculptural floor model of the light has recently won the ‘Best Floor Light’ award at the Wallpaper* Design Awards 2012.
Local Network Partners: Rome
Joining the discussion on how to create a more beautiful and sustainable Roman cityscape we're also partnering with OFL Architecture and Bross srl. OFL Architecture is an interdisciplinary architectural practice based in Rome. The office is focused on emergent design processes through a design methodology that integrates architecture with other disciplines, redefining the relationship of the significant contemporary city and its current urban conditions. Francesco Lipari established OFL Architecture
in 2008 and, in 2009, Vanessa Todaro joined the office as Associate Partner. In December 2009 OFL Architecture had its first solo exhibition in Sicily. Bross srl are the architects in charge of the district of Casal Bertone in the eastern Roman suburbs that was constructed with sustainability in mind using 80% less energy than conventional buildings. They will also be integrating an independent car-sharing station and a public charging station for electric cars.
