The Palazzo delle Esposizioni and the Accademia Filarmonic Romana have decided to pursue their collaboration following the success of previous seasons.  This year too the Bernini Quartet, one of Italy's finest chamber orchestras, will once again be bringing great classical music to the Palazzo's Sala Auditorium with a third cycle of concerts, to wind up its exploration of Mozart's quartets.
“These quartets are the fruit of long and arduous toil”, the great composer wrote when he finally decided to publish his first String Quartets.  Even he had taken his time so that he could be sure of the final result.  He knew that in this case there was no room for error, for disappointing his audience.  He dedicated the quartets to Franz Joseph Haydn, asking him to watch "over these children of mine like a father and a friend".
As Luciano Berio once said, the string quartet is where "the ship of music throws its sounding lead out into the deepest seas".  That maxim applies also to Mozart.  It was here that he experimented, probed and dared to propose innovative solutions.
The Bernini Quartet and the Accademia Filarmonica Romana are thus bringing to a close in 2010 their project for the performance of the entire series of Mozart quartets.  The first and last quartets will be performed in sequence in the three concerts, in an effort to highlight the progress that Mozart made in his handling of the medium.  The experience of hearing them in sequence will take the listener on tiptoe into the composer's own creative workshop, to track the unbridled emergence of his personality and his ultimate achievement of the loftiest results.
