The Calm

admission free

directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski (Spokój, Poland 1976–80, 81 min. – original version with Italian subtitles)

in the presence of Jerzy Stuhr, actor and co-scriptwriter

Antek Gralak (Jerzy Stuhr, who also co-authored the script) dreams of a calm life. He has just come out of prison and he does not want trouble with anyone. All he wants is a job, a home, a wife and children. With this in mind, he leaves his home town of Krakow to travel to Silesia, where he starts working on a building site. Everything goes swimmingly until one day some of the construction material disappears from the site... The film was blocked for four years before it was screened on television in 1980, and it went on to win the Special Jury Award at the Gdynia festival.
