In 2018 the Lifeline with 224 refugees on board was one of the first ships to take a long time finding a port that would allow it to dock. For two years the director followed Axel Steier and the Mission Lifeline NGO in Germany and the Mediterranean, where determination to rescue migrants turns into a struggle to reaffirm the European ideal.
