(Spain 1973) directed by Víctor Erice, starring Fernando Fernán Gómez, Teresa Gimpera, Ana Torrent, color, 97’, 35mm Italian dubbed version
Ana is an introverted young girl and a daydreamer, too. She lives in a small town in Franco's Spain, in 1940. A view of the film Frankenstein moves her to the point where she drifts into her fantasy world. When she bumps into a Republican soldier, she mistakes him for the monster and helps him hide away. Even if he made only three films, Erice is a legendary director and this is one of the most evocative film about childhood ever. A simple and yet complex work of art that left a lasting mark.
