Play Time - cinema review

26 june 2012

(France 1967)
directed by Jacques Tati, starring Jacques Tati, Barbara Dennek, Rita Maiden
color, 115', 35mm Italian dubbed version
Tati's most daring work and one of the biggest productions and creative efforts in the history of French cinema, Play Time was a box-office bomb, gaining cult status only many years after its release. Set in a futuristic Paris, the adventures of the funny and clumsy Monsieur Hulot are a biting satire of the modern world, its bureaucracy and useless rules, exploding in a feast of perfectly timed and visually unique physical gags.
