Cupid, Venus and Modesty in Lorenzo Lotto's Work
We can take nothing for granted in the painting of Lorenzo Lotto. With his uniquely penetrating sensitivity, the Venetian master engaged in an iconographic revisitation of the dominant Renaissance theme of Cupid and Venus, devising astonishing solutions that helped to forge a highly original aesthetic and ethical vision of the world. Taking his cue from the "mysterious" picture in the Pallavini collection, on display in the exhibition, and from the emblematic "ermine" of the figure of Modesty, the lecturer focuses on Lorenzo Lotto's variations on the figures of the winged god and of the goddess of love.
