directed by John Cassavetes, starring Burt Lancaster, Judy Garland and Gena Rowlands. USA, 1963, 102 min., original version with Italian subtitles
Breaking one of the cinema's biggest taboos, Cassavetes was the first to address the issue of mental disability in children, even filming in a real mental institution and involving two stars of the calibre of Burt Lancaster and Judy Garland in his project. The producers changed the film's final cut, angering Cassavetes immensely, but it still manages to maintain its superb thrust and force.
